9K123 KHRIZANTEMA-S all-weather antitank missile system

Purpose

Destruction of fielded and future main battle tanks, including those protected with explosive reactive armour (ERA), small-displacement surface vessels, low-flying aerial targets, fortifications, manpower under cover and in the open in the day- and night-time, under easy and difficult weather conditions, in the presence of dust and smoke.

9P157 combat vehicle

699-sb2 chassis based on BMP-3 assemblies and units.

The 9P157 CV crew includes two persons. The vehicle is of a cross-country type and is capable of operating in the presence of effects created by weapons of mass destruction. The missile load carried by the 9P157 CV is fifteen 9M123 and 9M123F antitank missiles in an automated stowage. The retractable launcher is automatically loaded with missiles from the  automated CV stowage according to the required and selected type. Replenishment of the stowage with missiles is done either with the help of a loading mechanism or manually. The retractable CV launcher mounts two canisterized missiles.

The 9P157 CV is outfitted with an optical and laser control system (OLGS) and a radar control system (RCS).

The firing rate is up to 4 msls/min. Missiles are launched in a sequence when the CV doesn't move. Two missiles from the same CV launcher can be simultaneously guided to two different targets.

9P157 CV fire sector:
- in azimuth: minus 85 to plus 85 degrees;
- in elevation: minus 5 to plus 15 degrees.

The tail portion accommodates control and guidance section (incl. actuators located in front of the nozzle unit and perpendicular to the axes of nozzles).

КБМ Коломна ракета 9М123 The missile guidance system includes a radio receiver and a photodetector (in C&G section) for automatic radio beam or semi-automatic laser beam riding. The guidance mode is set by voltages applied to appropriate launcher contacts.

Specifications of 9M123 and 9M123F antitank guided missiles

9N146-1 warhead (9M123 missile): Tandem HEAT (armour penetration 1000 to 1100 mm behind ERA).

9N146F warhead (9M123F missile): HE (FAE, TNT equivalent 13.5 kg, min.).

The missile guidance system includes a radio receiver and a photodetector installed in the C&G section for respectively automatic radio beam or semi-automatic laser beam riding.

Warhead diameter: 155 mm.

Length of canitserized missile: 2300 mm.

Weight of canitserized missile: 62 kg, max.

Altitude for combat use of 9M123 and 9M123F missiles above sea level: Up to 3000 m.

9V990 mobile test station

The 9V990 mobile test station (MTS) is used for scheduled functional checks of 9M123, 9M123F, 9M123Prakt., 9M123Uchebn. missiles during operation and storage.

9V990 MTS components:

- chassis: Ural-4320 type truck;

- K5350 box body;

- 9V981 test equipment.

The Ural-4320 truck 9 (6х6) has a 4-stroke liquid-cooled diesel.

The KK4.2 container houses the 9V981 test equipment for missile checks and other associated units and instruments.

The KK4.2 container also accommodates a 15.8-kW diesel electric set (generator) producing 380VAC (three phases, 50Hz) to supply MTS equipment and missiles under check with electric power. 

The generator is placed in the container's compartment. Electric power is supplied without removing the generator from the compartment it is placed in.

The 9V990 MTS can also run off an industrial three-phase 380VAC±10%,  (50±1) Hz mains.

Standard instruments are used to check 9V981 TE components.

Missiles are checked by means of the 9V981 test equipment housed in the container of the 9V990 MTS. Missile's parameters can be checked in both an automated and manual mode.

9V945 mobile test station

The 9V945 mobile test station (MTS) is intended for Maintenance No.2 of 9P157 CVs with identification of faulty components down to a line replaceable unit (available with Group SPTA kit) without detaching cables and removing equipment from the item under check, it is also used for integrated tests of units from group SPTA kits assembled into 1K118 subsystems, and for measuring control equipment parameters during its adjustment and tuning after replacement of a faulty unit.

9V945 MTS components:

- chassis: KamAZ 5350 type truck;

- К5350 box body;

- 9V991 test equipment (TE) composed of:

            - 9V992 TE (used to check 1K118 system);

            - 9V993 TE (used to check 1L32 radar control system);

            - digital control unit;

            - stimulating signal unit;

            - measurement unit;

            - switching unit;

            - remote control panel;

            - cable set;

            - standard instruments: frequency meter, oscilloscope, voltmeter, megger, multimeter;

            - individual SPTA kit;

            - set of service documents.

The container accommodates a diesel electric set to supply the MTS and CV with electric power.

The 9V945 MTS can also run off an industrial three-phase 380VAC±10%,  (50±1) Hz mains.

Standard instruments are used to check 9V991 TE components.

9P157 CVs are checked by means of the 9V991 TE housed in the 9V945 MTS in an automated manner by consecutive checks of parameters of individual subsystems of the item under check. To change from checking one subsystem to another there is a manual MODE switch on the stimulating signal unit.

CV parameters can be checked by the 9V991 TE in both an automated and manual mode.
